Emergency action
The Sutton Volunteer Centre (CAB) implemented emergency measures to ensure that it could continue providing services to seniors and families. The first challenge was recruiting people to replace their existing cohort of volunteers, most of whom were aged 70 and older. The Sutton community proved up to the challenge; nearly 200 new volunteers came forward.
The Sutton Volunteer Centre’s Jocelyn Darou recounts how the food bank and Meals-on-Wheels program were quickly reorganized; how the CAB joined forces with first responders to deliver groceries and medicine; and how CAB’s volunteers multiplied efforts to maintain contact with their most isolated and vulnerable clients. These acts of kindness included telephone calls; encouraging cards and notes; and meeting people in open spaces outdoors, etc…
